A New Chapter Begins at Jet Stream 🐾🍂

There is something about September that always feels like the beginning of something.

The mornings become a little cooler, the light changes, the first leaves begin to turn and suddenly the countryside seems to take a deep breath after summer.

And here at Jet Stream, this September feels particularly special.

Because after months of planning, writing, designing, changing things, changing them back again, learning things I never expected to learn and drinking quite a remarkable amount of tea…

Jet Stream finally has a home of its own on the internet.

Welcome. 🐾

This website has been a dream for quite a long time.

What started with a Border Collie called Jet, a camera and a few stories shared online has somehow grown into books, adventures, photographs, a wonderful community of people and now this little corner of the internet where we can bring everything together.

And this blog is going to be part of that.

So, what will we talk about?

Probably a bit of everything.

There will be stories from our walks through the Scottish countryside, places Jet and I discover, wildlife we encounter and photographs from our adventures.

There will be behind-the-scenes peeks at the books — including the bits that go beautifully and the bits that result in me staring at a computer screen wondering why on earth I ever thought writing books was a sensible idea.

We’ll talk about the changing seasons, countryside life, nature, photography and some of the stories behind the places we visit.

There will be news from Jet Stream, new projects taking shape and perhaps the occasional idea that begins with the words:

“I’ve been thinking…”

Those words are generally dangerous around here.

They tend to result in another project.

Not Everything Needs to Be Perfect

One thing I want this blog to be is real.

Social media often shows the finished photograph, the completed book or the lovely countryside walk.

It doesn’t always show the muddy boots, the abandoned ideas, the weather changing halfway through a photo shoot or the Border Collie who suddenly decides that the carefully planned photograph would look considerably better if he faced the opposite direction.

So there will probably be some of that here too.

The ordinary bits.

The funny bits.

The unexpected bits.

Because those are often where the best stories live.

A Weekly Wander

My plan is to add a new blog each week.

Some weeks we might wander through a Scottish glen.

Another week we could explore an old ruin, follow a woodland path or look at the wildlife living right under our noses.

Sometimes I might take you behind the scenes while I'm working on a new Jet Stream book.

And occasionally we may simply sit down together and talk about whatever has been happening at Jet Stream Towers.

I have absolutely no doubt that Kevin will provide material.

He usually does. 🦚

But there are other plans taking shape too.

Jet now has his very own GoPro harness, which means that before too long you won’t just be reading about some of our walks — you’ll be able to experience parts of them from Jet’s point of view.

Imagine bounding along a woodland trail, splashing through a burn or heading across the hills with the world unfolding at Border Collie height. 🐾🎥

That should be fun.

Possibly slightly chaotic.

And almost certainly muddy.

And then, when Mum eventually finds enough time to plan, organise and breathe, there are plans for a Jet Stream YouTube channel too.

That’s still somewhere on the rather enormous Jet Stream to-do list, but it is coming.

When it does, we’ll share some of our walks, countryside adventures, wildlife encounters and behind-the-scenes moments there.

And you won’t always have to leave Jet Stream to see them.

We’re planning to share little video clips right here on the website too, so sometimes a blog might contain more than photographs and words.

You might be reading about a windswept walk across the hills one moment…

…and then actually watching Jet race along the very same path the next.

That’s one of the things I’m most excited about.

This website isn’t supposed to be something that simply sits here.

I want it to grow with us.

To become a place filled with stories, photographs, films, books, adventures and little pieces of life from our corner of Scotland.

And So It Begins…

It feels rather lovely writing those words.

The first Jet Stream blog.

A blank page.

A new website.

Autumn arriving quietly outside the window.

And a whole collection of adventures still waiting somewhere up the road.

Jet and I don't know exactly where all of this will lead.

And perhaps that's the exciting part.

We’ll just keep walking, keep exploring, keep creating and see where the path takes us.
